Registration is open for the conference "Inputs/Outputs: Inter-disciplinary Approaches to Causality in Engagement, Immersion, Presence and Related Concepts in Performance and Human Computer Interaction", which will be held at University of Sussex on 26 June 2013.
The cost for academic staff and professionals is £40 and £25 for students. Please see http://www.inputs-outputs.org/ and http://inputsoutputsconference.eventbrite.co.uk/#<http://inputsoutputsconference.eventbrite.co.uk/> for further details.
Inputs-Outputs is an interdisciplinary conference, bringing together a diverse range of experts on engagement and interactivity, in games, theatre, human-computer interaction, and human-human interaction. Our speakers include leading neuroscientists, researchers who measure how well humans connect, immersive theatre company Punchdrunk, actor and game designer Tassos Stevens, computer games researchers, and researchers in social sensors –the reading and processing of non-verbal communication by humans or technology.
Some of these experts create interactive interfaces, others research what makes an interactive interface engaging, some research the measurement or quantification of engagement, others still what happens within when people are engaged.
We are also organising a workshop with funding experts from EPSRC and AHRC on the day, to provide a hothouse for the development of projects and collaborations.
Presentations will focus on the questions that the discussion will be centred around:
* Assessment and quantification of engagement in different fields
* Methodology and modalities for measuring engagement in different fields
* The relationship between physical, emotional, and intellectual engagement
