Dear colleagues
I must apologise for the long delay in beginning this year's survey. As you
may know the plan was to run a short survey on Marshall Breeding's LTG site,
followed by another slightly longer one - focusing more on opinion - on
Survey Monkey. However several factors have mitigated against this approach,
not least the fact that Marshall has been living on aeroplanes since last
October when we discussed this in Boston!
Another factor that has changed the plans a little has been the steady
growth of RFID and NFC applications in libraries. This, plus the happy (or
possibly unhappy) coincidence that NFC capabilities are now being added to
many smartphones - and that these can now read and write to many existing
library tags is likely to have a major impact on the way in which libraries
use these closely-related technologies over the coming year or two so now
seems a good time to take stock of how they, and other RFID devices, are
already being used.
So, with Marshall's agreement, I am opting to run this year's survey,
starting today, on Survey Monkey once again. We hope to combine our efforts
next year.
The survey runs until June 12th . I'd prefer to hear from individuals whose
libraries are already using some form of RFID or NFC based application (any
frequency, any data model) and for which they have some level of management
responsibility. It just makes it easier to gather the facts. If you want to
share an opinion feel free to write to me, I'm always ready to listen.
Please feel free to pass this email onto colleagues who might be interested.
You can find the survey here <https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/SQND9KS> .
Thanks again for your help
Kind regards
Mick
