The ARLIS Professional Development Committee has organised a day of visits in Brighton to the University of Brighton Design Archives and the Rare Books section of the Jubilee Public Library.
The tours will take place on Friday 7th June 2013:
11-1pm – Visit to the Rare Books section of the Jubilee Public Library Brighton (there is no charge for this visit but a request is made for a small donation)
1-2pm - LUNCH BREAK
2-4pm – Visit to the University of Brighton Design Archives (there is not charge for this visit)
The Rare Books section of the Jubilee Public Library Brighton includes collections that span more than seven centuries and include early printed books, illuminated manuscripts, fine bindings covering subjects from history, literature, and the arts to philosophy, natural history, and theology.
The University of Brighton Design Archives contains major collections of archives of institutions such as the Design Council, The International Council of Societies of Industrial Design and the Brighton School of Art, as well as the personal archives of notable individuals such as the journalist Alison Settle and designer Hans Rothholz.
This visit will provide an opportunity to gain behind-the-scenes access to these libraries and glimpse their wonderful collections.
The meeting point will be the public entrance to the Jubilee Public Library on Jubilee Street, Brighton, BN1 1GE.
