Event summary
What is Open Access? Are you baffled by the terminology and uncertain as to
what it’s all about? Do you want to know which publishers are doing it, why
and how they’re doing it, and what librarians have to do with it? Are you
looking for facts and a clear understanding of what is happening in the UK?
Then come to this UKSG seminar when all will be revealed.
Why you should attend
This one-day seminar is designed to give a general and impartial
introduction to the Open Access (OA) publishing model and the issues and
management considerations related to it currently. Various stakeholders
including publishers, librarians and intermediaries will provide their
perspectives on the OA model and its importance. Current projects and
future developments will also be covered. There will be time to ask
speakers questions about their topics and for delegates to raise issues
relating to their own working experience.

Learning objectives
Participants attending the seminar will:
· appreciate the facts and issues pertaining to Open Access
· understand what Green, Gold and Hybrid OA mean
· learn about the Finch Report and mandates and implications for
publishers, authors and libraries
· understand why repositories are important
· learn what publishers are offering
· hear from librarians about the challenges of managing Open Access
in the library
· hear about new developments in Open Access.
