OPF Hackathon: A Practical Approach to Disk Images and Digital Forensics
15-17 May
Royal Library, Copenhagen
Registration for the next OPF hackathon will close in one week, on Wednesday 8 May. You can still sign up for the event at: http://opf-digital-forensics.eventbrite.co.uk/.
The full agenda can be seen here: http://wiki.opf-labs.org/display/KB/Agenda+-+Disk+Images+and+Digital+Forensics+%28Copenhagen%29.
Why attend?
* Learn how to assess, analyse and preserve your digital data
* Find out about different digital forensic tools and techniques, and how to apply them
* Work with some of the leading experts and developers in the field
* Discover how other organisations are working with digital forensics tools through practical use cases
* Contribute your ideas and experience to the group, and help to build the knowledge base of 'Digital Preservation and Data Curation Requirements and Solutions' (http://wiki.opf-labs.org/display/REQ/Digital+Preservation+and+Data+Curation+Requirements+and+Solutions)
The best way of learning practical preservation skills is by getting hands-on experience of actually doing it. By the end of the event you'll have solved some preservation challenges, learnt new skills you can take back to the office/library/archive, and will have become part of a supportive digital preservation community. Take a look at this recent blog from Bram van der Werf, Executive Director of the OPF, about the importance of hackathons: http://www.openplanetsfoundation.org/blogs/2013-04-28-hack-preserve-increasing-your-organisational-competence.
When asked what they liked best about previous hackathons, attendees said:
"It was very good to see the practical aspect of getting things done, rather than just theorising"
"The discussion sessions were really useful. The speakers and facilitators were really passionate about their work"
"I liked the goal-oriented sharing of issues and contexts, and the instant write-up in the wiki"
