FUNDED SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
The School of Geographical and Earth Sciences (GES), and the Urban Studies Foundation (USF), offer several scholarships to outstanding applicants, as follows:
(i) 3 individual GES “fees-paid” scholarships (equivalent to £5000) to be awarded for 2013-14, competitively on the basis of undergraduate degree performance, and references supplied. Eligibility extends to UK and EU applicants.
To be considered for a GES “fees-paid” scholarship, applicants are required to submit a standard application for postgraduate study at the University of Glasgow, by Friday 28th June 2013. Full application instructions appear below.
(ii) 1 Urban Studies Foundation (USF) “fees-paid” scholarship (equivalent to £5000) to be awarded for 2013-14. Awarded on the basis of undergraduate degree performance and references supplied, to a candidate with a well-established plan for a Masters dissertation project with a clear urban focus. Eligibility extends to UK and EU applicants.
In addition to submitting a standard application for postgraduate study at the University of Glasgow, applicants wishing to be considered for the USF scholarship must supply a one-page personal statement outlining interests in urban geography, and intended dissertation project in the field of urban geography.

N.B. individual applicants can be considered for both GES and USF scholarships
(iii) 1 GES ‘International Academic Excellence Scholarship’ (comprising £2000 discount on University Tuition fees) awardable for 2013-14 to an international fee-paying non-EU student.
To be considered for the GES International Academic Excellence Scholarship award you need to submit a standard application for postgraduate study at the University of Glasgow by Friday 28th June 2013. Scholarship awarded on the basis of excellent potential and undergraduate degree performance. The award recipient will be informed by the end of July 2013.

ADMISSIONS and APPLICATION PROCEDURE
For admission, applicants require a pass of 2:1 (Upper Second) Class Honours degree, or better, in Geography or a relevant/cognate social sciences or humanities discipline (or equivalent if non-UK student).

Applicants do not need to outline specific research interests, but do need to state an intended source of funding for studies (scholarship/personal funds etc.).
ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
For applicants whose first language is not English, the University of Glasgow sets a minimum English Language proficiency level.
International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic module (not General Training):
• overall score 6.5
• no sub-test less than 6.0
• or equivalent scores in another recognised qualification (see below)
Common equivalent English language qualifications:
• ibTOEFL: 92; no sub-test less than 20
• CAE (Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English): B minimum
• CPE (Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English): C minimum
• PTE Academic (Person Test of English, Academic test): 60; no sub-test less than 59
