Phenomics: Automating Experimental Biology - at SEB Valencia 2013
Dates: 5 & 6 July
Organised by: John Doonan (Aberystwyth University), Tony Pridmore (University of Nottingham)
Confirmed Speakers: Jason Swedlow (University of Dundee), Rainer Pepperkok (EMBL Heidelberg), Quentin Bickle (London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine), Mark Tester (University of Adelaide), Chris Rawlings (Rothamsted Research), Fabio Fiorani (ForschungszentrumJulich), Silke Robatzek (The Sainsbury Laboratory), Brian Forde (University of Lancaster), George Gtovis (Aberystwyth University)
Additional speakers will be selected from the abstracts.
Description: Automation, computer-assisted image acquisition and analysis can help close the gap between genotyping and phenotyping and generate the objective quantitative data needed for applications such as gene mapping, data integration and modelling. Many experimental biologists are becoming aware of the possibilities, but have yet to take advantage of these emerging technologies. This session will provide an overview of currently available imaging based technologies, with a focus on the cell and developmental biology of plants and animals and potential applications in areas such as plant breeding.
ABSTRACT SUBMISSION DEADLINE: Friday 3rd May http://www.sebiology.org/meetings/Valencia/abstracts.html
