Dear All,
The 13th Postgraduate Forum on Genetics and Society (PFGS) interdisciplinary Colloquium will take place on the 24th and 25th of June at Leeds University, and anthropologists working in and around medical anthropology, innovation, the anthropology of science and legal anthropology are especially encouraged to attend.
The theme is 'Scientific Innovation in the Biosociety: Current Responsibilities, Future Promises' and the panel streams will be
a) Biomedical innovation
(identity and perfection, preventative and diagnostic technologies, reconceptualising age, intervention and extension, normality, stigma and cure)
b) Biocapital and economic growth
(patents and ownership disputes, national and international innovation policy, value chains in biotechnology, medical tourism)
c) War, law and crime
(legal aspects and applications of genetics, privacy and databases, 'genes for' criminality and other attributes, secutiry and surveillance, biowarfare)
d) Responsibility and 'Frontier' technologies
(synthetic biology, nanotechnology, cloning, reviving genomes, enhancement, public engagement and governance of risk)
Our great keynote speakers include Professor Anne Kerr, Professor Jackie Leach Scully, Professor Bronwyn Parry, Dr Andy Miah and Professor Paul Martin.
Details about the colloquium are available here http://pfgs.wordpress.com/colloquium-2013/ and registration is coordinated through http://pfgs.eventbrite.co.uk/
UK Travel and accommodation bursaries are available on application, but places are limited and priority will be given to presenters.
The programme will be available shortly through http://pfgs.wordpress.com/
We look forward to seeing many of you there!
Rachel
on behalf of the PFGS Committee
