Vacancy No. 05/13-EMRP
The Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) is the National Metrology Institute of the Federal Republic of Germany with scientific and technical service tasks. It furthers progress and reliability in metrology for society, economy and science. Within the framework of a European research project, department 8.4 "Mathematical Modeling and Data Analysis" is looking for a
Scientist

The position is located in Berlin and limited to 3 years. Depending on eligibility and experience, the tasks are in accordance with the characteristics of up to Group Ib (14 TvÖD) of the BAT remuneration scheme; the remuneration will be paid according to the regulations of the TVöD.
Background:
The visual optical surface properties, e.g. of varnishes or coatings, are important for many industrial products. These properties can be characterized by the measurement of the bidirectional reflectance distribution function (BRDF). Within the framework of a European research project according BRDF measurement setups will be characterized and optimized. The development will be based on a mathematical model of the measurement and calls for simulation techniques to carry out virtual experiments. In addition, department 8.4 participates in the analysis of measurements made by project partners. Within PTB the project will be carried out in collaboration of the departments 8.4 "Mathematical Modeling and Data Analysis” and 4.2 “Imaging and Wave Optics”.
Tasks:
• Statistical data analysis
• Development of virtual experiments
• Mathematical modelling of BRDF measurements
Requirements:
• You should have completed your university studies (diploma or master)
• Aptitude for the statistical analysis of experiments and measurement processes
• Experience with at least one of the potential key activities
• Passion for independent scientific work, as well as for team work and European project work
