Hi James,
Thanks for the links, that's a really nice summary and very helpful. I'm about to start my duplication project soon so this is very timely.
As the CHICC blog is well worth reading would you be in a position to let this list know when you have a new blog post by simply posting the link?
Cheers
Tony

Hi,
Over here at CHICC we have a different system for digitising mounted slides, GPN's lantern slides etc. We have been using this method for around 7 years here, and it works a treat. Also, if you've already got a studio set up, it costs next to nothing.
It's basically a table with a glass top, with a white reflective surface underneath. We use 2 flash heads either side, camera on the copy stand. here is an example:

When it comes to digitising glass negs or mounted slides, we block light fro falling on the top surface with foams. We find this so much quicker than scanning, and using an IQ180, we get much better results.

Dear All,
I've uploaded Anne's document on copy stand duplication versus scanning, cut and paste the link below, seems to work for me best without the http bit.

Someone mention my name??
Yes, we have been looking into various methods of copying photographic material and when digitising negs or transparencies have chosen different methods depending on the purpose they are to be used for. I will ask Tony to load a copy of the document I wrote a few years ago onto the files area, with our thoughts on the subject back then. I am aware that camera chip sizes have changed of late so some of the info given may not hold true now.
As for light boxes you might be interested in the following link.

Type in K2492 or K5212 or K2425 in the search field.
Because of our budget we went for the K2425 Prolite Basic but we're not totally convinced the illumination is even. I guess you pay for what you get.
