The Department of Geography, University of Zurich is advertising a
Ph.D. position in Economic Geography
The successful applicant will be part of the Economic Geography research group and join a dynamic, internationally oriented research team. We are particularly interested in PhD candidates with research interests in processes of commodification and marketization in the global south including (but not limited to) the areas of agriculture and agricultural labor. A regional focus on Latin America and/or Africa will be regarded as an asset.
Amongst your tasks will be the design and realization of your own research project, limited contributions to our teaching program and participation in our regular research-related activities. Applicants should have ambitions to be present internationally (publications, conferences). They are expected to hold an excellent Master’s degree in human geography or any other relevant social science discipline and be proficient in English. We offer a stimulating and exciting work environment that provides plenty of opportunities to develop an academic career. Members of our research group profit from international contacts and opportunities to attend conferences and workshops.
The appointment is by 1st September 2013. The position (42’000-48’000 CHF p.a.) is for a period of three years with possibilities for extension. Funding for project-related fieldwork is available. If you are interested, please send a letter of application, a full curriculum vitae, copies of relevant diplomas, two names of possible referees, a writing sample (20 pages max., e.g. chapter of master thesis), and a short outline of dissertation ideas in a single pdf file by e-mail to Perscheng Assef ([log in to unmask]).
Applications can be submitted in German or English. Please direct informal inquiries to Christian Berndt ([log in to unmask]).
Closing date: 17 June 2013
