Hi Stuart,
At City College Norwich we have exactly the same concerns, and are therefore planning to switch off the new My Grades tool when we upgrade. Our concerns are also around the ordering of the items in the new My Grades tool, in that they do not adhere to the ordering in the Grade Centre, and therefore we cannot control and ensure clarify for the students in the new tool by ordering the Grade Centre columns. This particular issue has been listed as a KB article:

From my testing on my SP12 test system switching off the new My Grades Building Block simply reverts the tool to the 'classic' pre-SP10 one which we're familiar with. Although this tool isn't perfect, it's definitely better than the new one for now.
I understand that a lot of institutions have concerns about the changes to My Grades; I've heard that Product Development are looking at some future changes. Have you opened a ticket about this, and been in touch with your Account Manager? My Account Manager has recommended both of these routes to ensure PD understand how many people this affects.
All the best,
Chris

Subject: New My Grades - Blackboard 9.1 SP12
Dear Colleague,
We are anticipating upgrading to Blackboard 9.1 SP12 this summer. However, we have concerns about the new look My Grades, particularly that it makes it difficult for students to identify if they have feedback attached along with their grades and that it’s harder to see all their details about their progress in a single view without having to scroll down the page. Has anyone switched off the new My Grades in order to revert to using the older one? What have you found by doing this?
Many thanks,
Stuart
