Hello,
The Allen Library holds material relating to the history of
modern
Ireland, mainly focusing on the years 1916-1922, although it also holds
earlier
and later material. In the 1940’s Br. William Palladius Allen, after whom
the
present library is named, was put in charge of managing the collection.
During his years as Curator the library and archival collection expanded.
Today the archival collection includes papers and photographs of prominent
people such as Dr Kathleen Lynn, Madeline ffrench Mullen, Alice Milligan,
Áine
Ceannt, Grace Plunkett, Constance Markievicz, Daniel O’Connell, Seán T.
O’Ceallaigh, Éamonn Ceannt, Patrick Pearse, Frank Flood, Roger Casement and
Robert Monteith. As part of a new outreach initiative the Allen Library is
looking for the public to help in identifying some images from the
collection.
In order to do this we will be displaying a number of photographs on our
new
Flickr page at http://www.flickr.com/photos/allenlibrary/
Rather than describing for example a photograph of an unknown Irish
Volunteer it
is hoped that the public will be able to assist in identifying that
particular
Irish Volunteer.
Thanking you in advance.
Kind regards,
Rosemary King,
