Opportunity for Two Positions - Research Fellowships in Demogaphy
at the The Oxford Institute of Population Ageing, University of Oxford for

1. A full time Research Fellow (2 years fixed term contract) with particular expertise in population modelling.
2. A full time Research Fellow (4+ years fixed term contract) with particular expertise in the demography of developing countries.

Further Details:
Research Fellow in Demography
Oxford Institute of Population Ageing, University of Oxford
Oxford Martin Future of Food Programme
Salary: Grade 7 (£29,541 to £36,298)

The Oxford Institute of Population Ageing is seeking a quantitative researcher to work with Dr George Leeson in collaboration with Dr Mike Bonsall (Department of Zoology) on the Oxford Martin Future of Food Programme. Main responsibilities will be to conduct population modelling scenarios. As part of the scientific team at the Institute, the incumbent will be asked to contribute to research tasks related to demographic and statistical analysis. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of a world-leading research programme.

The successful candidate will work within a multi-disciplinary project which combines the expertise of two departments at the University of Oxford, the Oxford Institute of Population Ageing and the Department of Zoology, to address two key elements of the food security debate: the changing demography of agricultural populations and the impact of environmental change.

The contribution of the Research Fellow in Demography is to undertake population modelling scenarios, primarily on human populations, but also to explore similar modelling with insect populations. While an interest in the demography of developing countries is expected, and knowledge of the demography of the Asian region is desirable, the ability to work in an inter-disciplinary environment alongside both demographers and biologists is essential. The project will require both independent work as well as working as part of a multi-disciplinary team. You will also be expected to participate in project research meetings, seminars and public events.

A PhD or equivalent experience in Demography with proven experience of multidimensional population modelling as well as of population analyses using advanced demographic and statistical methods is essential. In addition, the candidate will have excellent communication skills and the ability to lead and contribute to the publication and presentation of research findings.

The post is full-time, on a fixed-term contract, commencing 1 October 2013 for 2 years (with possibility for extension).

Applications, including a curriculum vitae, should be submitted by noon on 3 June 2013 (electronically via the University of Oxford website - Jobs and Vacancies, under Research positions at https://www.recruit.ox.ac.uk.

Interviews will be held 5 & 6 June 2013.

The Oxford Institute of Population Ageing is seeking a quantitative researcher to work with Dr George Leeson in collaboration with Professor Sarah Harper on the Collen Programme on Fertility, Education and the Environment. As part of the scientific team, the incumbent will be asked to contribute to research tasks related to demographic and statistical analysis. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of a world-leading research programme in the impact of fertility on population change.

The successful candidate will work within this multi-disciplinary Research Programme to undertake analyses of the development of fertility and the underlying causes, as well as model scenarios for future developments.

Experience in the demography of developing countries is essential and knowledge of the demography of Africa, Asia or Latin America is desirable. Graduate degree at Doctoral level in demography is also required, as is a publication record, demonstrated achievement in participation in research projects, experience in the dissemination of research and ability to communicate effectively as well as to work independently.
