The postholder will work with Professor Steve McKay to conduct research on matters relating to social welfare. Knowledge of social policy topics, such as attitudes to welfare and family and income dynamics, would therefore be an advantage. The Research Fellow will be responsible for conducting statistical analysis of cross-sectional and longitudinal survey data (such as Understanding Society, British Social Attitudes, British Household Panel Survey) using STATA or SPSS. They will also contribute to drafting conference, journal and other papers, and potentially to grant applications.
The postholder should have a postgraduate degree in a quantitative social science (PhD or very close to completion, or equivalent experience), and experience in the management of large and complex datasets, as well as good statistical or econometric analysis skills. They should have good communication skills, particularly in writing. The post requires the postholder to have strong analytical skills and the ability to clearly communicate complex information.
