Terry Eagleton claimed that English Studies is a moral technology which
was directed at FR Leavis close reading.
But the same seems to apply to more recent high school creative writing
classes.
MAK Halliday's social semiotics hit Leavisite close readings on the head
and there was a huge fight, here, at Sydney Uni.
