This is probably vital; the complete disconnection between a formal
practice and the theories of form, which appear as something else again.
Marshall McLuhan commented that American thought has an unconscious
Kantianism. Given McLuhan hostility to technology and his conservative
politics this give a lot away. Oddly the influence of McLuhan in
Canadian cultural studies as a champion of technology leads back to
Kant, as well. The idea that computer code can be original art and even
Bok's use of genetic code as art and imagination returns to Kant as a
dead end. Although there is more to Bok, that needs consideration.
