- Project Summary
Software Defined Networking (SDN) has arisen as a new breed of networking
solution to make faster innovations in computer networks possible. At its core
is the clear separation between control plane and data plane, meaning that
control logic in switches is offloaded to a centralised controller and the
switches are precisely orchestrated by the controller. Therefore, SDN provides a
network administrator with highly flexible programmability at a centralised
controller while SDN switches stay relatively simple. While the SDN technology
can simplify many issues (and will possibly be useful to address them easily)
that today's networks face, it brings new challenges, too.
In this hot and fast growing area, we broadly aim to enhance SDN technologies.
Particular research topics of interest are:
(1) High-fidelity measurement primitives for SDN
(2) Scalability and performance issues in SDN switches and controllers
(3) Seamless integration of network measurement and management tasks using SDN
