Hi Linda
For Android devices I would recommend TapeMachine Recorder. I have used
this on a variety of phones for as a cheap substitute for an industry
standard digital microphone (such as as the DRM85) and have found it to
work brilliantly. There is a nice live waveform when recording (to monitor
clipping and background noise) and has some basic editing tools. The audio
quality is excellent. However, I would only recommend this method if the
recording is going to be performed indoors. For outdoors audio, I would
recommend a digital mic, either bought or hired.
For transcription I would also recommend Dragon. You won't be able to get
speech recognition to work with multiple participants, but you can train it
on your own voice and speak back the audio using heaphones and a mic.
Regards
Robin
