Dear MCGers,
the MCG Committee are delighted to announce that tickets are now available
for our Spring event, Engaging Visitors Through Play. Hosted by the
University of Ulster's Centre for Media Research, Engaging Visitors Through
Play will be held in Belfast, Northern Ireland on May 30, 2013. Book now
at http://mcgplay-mcglist.eventbrite.com
A symposium showcasing local talent and international best practice, this
event will provide delegates with a platform from which to explore how
their museum could use games and play to create meaningful visitor
engagement. It will provide game developers with an insight into emerging
opportunities to work with museums and arts organisations both in Northern
Ireland and internationally. This is the Museums Computer Group's first
event for decades in Northern Ireland and provides delegates with the
opportunity to connect with and learn more about an organisation that
connects, supports and inspires those working in and with museums across
the UK.
Speakers include:
* Sharna Jackson, Tate
* Danny Birchall, Wellcome Collection
* Mia Ridge, Museums Computer Group
* Alex Moseley, University of Leicester
* Stephen McGowan, Department Culture Arts and Leisure
* Oonagh Murphy, University of Ulster
* Alan Hook, University of Ulster
The symposium will be followed by a #drinkingaboutmuseums pub meetup
between 17:00-19:00. #drinkingaboutmuseums have been held across the world
and provide an informal setting to discuss new ideas and develop
collaborations with like-minded people. Open to all, the Belfast event will
allow speakers and delegates to discuss interesting ideas that have emerged
from the symposium over a beer (venue TBC). If you can't get out of the
office during the day, this could be a great way to catch up on the
discussion!

I'm personally really excited that we're holding an event in Northern
Ireland for the first time this millennium (our last was apparently at
the Ulster Museum, Belfast in 1994) - as always, drop me a line if you're
interested in partnering with the MCG to hold a local event.
Cheers, Mia
(as MCG Chair)
