Per uno sguardo 'lungo' vorrei segnalare che la metafora in questo senso
rimarrà anche oltre, pur evoluta e usata altrimenti: nel Settecento sarà non
a caso, con ricordo della tradizione, l'Ottica di Newton ad essere
'scorta' - nell'accezione segnalata di "faithful guide", nel "Newtonianismo
per le dame" di Francesco Algarotti.

of which which seems certain to have influenced Petrarch.
