Setting the Stage: Female Dramatists of Early Modern Italy
This session explores the cultural visibility attained by female authors writing secular and sacred drama (sacre rappresentazioni, tragedy, comedy, pastoral drama) from the fifteenth to the seventeenth century. As women’s writing increasingly enjoys modern scholarship and translation, we seek papers that examine its conception, publication, performance, and reception. Of particular interest are studies that address female incursions into male-dominated literary spheres, and how this emerging class of authors engaged with early modern social, cultural, and intellectual circles.
For consideration, please submit an abstract (150 words) and CV (one page) to both Sara Díaz ([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>) and Jessica Goethals ([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>) by May 31st, 2013.
