BRITISH GEOPHYSICAL ASSOCIATION BULLERWELL LECTURER - 2013
The call for nominations is now open for the 2013 Bullerwell
Lectureship, with a deadline 31st August 2013.
The lectureship, named after William Bullerwell, first Chief
Geophysicist of the (predecessor to the) British Geological Survey, is a
prestigious appointment for an outstanding young or early-career
geophysicist. The nomination form is on our website,
http://www.geophysics.org.uk
Follow the link "Bullerwell Lecturers and Lectures" in the centre of the
page, to find the downloadable form and call for nominations. There is
a list of past Bullerwell lecturers
there too. If you have problems with the website or documents, please
contact myself, Christine Peirce, the BGA Secretary, or Gillian Foulger,
the BGA Web Officer.

BRITISH GEOPHYSICAL ASSOCIATION IMAGE COMPETITION - 2013
Enter the British Geophysical Association image competition and help
promote UK geophysics. The top prize is £200 and a 1-year membership of
one of the BGA parent societies, the Royal Astronomical Society or the
Geological Society of London. Runner-up prize is a 1-year membership of
one of the parent societies.
Geophysics is the application of physics to study the Earth, oceans,
atmosphere and near-Earth space. It is a broad subject that straddles
many of the major sciences - physics, planetary science, geology,
environmental science, oceanography, and meteorology. A diverse range of
scientists call themselves geophysicists, including seismologists,
meteorologists, glaciologists, geomagnetists and geodesists.
We are looking for dramatic fieldwork photos, spectacular images of
numerical simulations, stimulating laboratory photos, or any other image
that is clearly of a geophysical nature.
Images must be in JPEG or JPG format. Only e-mail entries will be eligible.
Entrants must consent to the BGA using their image for promotional
purposes, free of charge.
Please submit images by e-mail to [log in to unmask], clearly
indicating “BGA image competition” in the subject line.
CLOSING DATE: The competition closes at midnight on the 31 August, 2013
and judging will take place at the BGA Postgraduate Research in Progress
Meeting in Cambridge on the 5th-6th September 2013.
Winning images will be posted on BGA web site and displayed in BGA
publicity material.
