*FROM*: School of Arts and Humanities, University of Stirling
*TOPIC*: Lecturer in Translation Studies (Mandarin Chinese)
We seek to appoint to an open-ended Lectureship in Translation Studies.
The successful candidate should be a speaker of Mandarin Chinese. We
particularly encourage applications from candidates who also have an
interest in Interpreting and/or Translation Technologies (including
Trados). Applicants should hold a PhD in Translation Studies or related
area or have equivalent professional experience. This appointment will
take over Programme Directorship duties (including recruitment
strategies) on our taught MRes in Translation Studies and MSc in
Translation Studies with TESOL, with a view to increasing activity in
these areas at TPG level, in the first instance, but also expanding into
PhD supervision and further research activities in future. In
particular, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to
raising the visibility of Translation as a research activity at Stirling
and beyond, through the organisation of research-led events and
activities, the preparation of associated, appropriate funding bids, and
the publication of high-level work in Translation Studies or related
fields.
We are also in the final stages of the development of a jointly taught
degree programme with Hebei Normal University, China, the first students
from which are expected to join us in Stirling in 2014-15. We anticipate
that the successful candidate would play an active and leading role in
the further development of this partnership and degree programme, which
may include time spent based in mainland China.
In addition to the essential and desirable criteria outlined below,
candidates should have the following skills/experience:
* The successful candidate should be fluent in English with a high
level of language competence in Chinese (Mandarin).
* Ability to supervise Masters level dissertations in Translation
Studies and extended Translation projects.
* Experience of supervising and coordinating Teaching Assistants.
* Experience of teaching international students and mixed-language
classes.
