We are looking for a dynamic individual to join the Archives team to lead on an exciting, new project to develop an external, education programme. The archive of the National Union of Women Teachers (NUWT) has recently been catalogued and has the potential to create stimulating resources for a wide range of groups. The Union (1904-1961) primarily campaigned for equal pay for female teachers, but was also central to the Women’s movement and grassroots campaigning on wider areas of social policy. Funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), the project will open up the NUWT’s archive to brand new audiences including schoolchildren, teachers, local and family historians, adult learners and the local community.
You will be responsible for developing online and onsite teaching and learning resources and activities. You will also oversee the digitisation of parts of the collection for preservation and access; help co-ordinate the work of volunteers whose work will form an essential part of this project; and liaise with our project partners, our funder HLF, London schools and local organisations to ensure the successful completion of the project. You should have experience of creating learning and teaching resources using heritage collections for a wide range of audiences. You will have a proven record of co-ordinating the work of volunteers. Knowledge of the National Curriculum, excellent IT and interpersonal skills, and an ability to prioritise and manage your own workload are essential. Experience of working on externally funded projects and a good knowledge of 20th century British history are desirable.
