BT DIGITAL ARCHIVES
BT Heritage has been working with Coventry University and The National Archives in a mass digitisation project to increase access hugely to BT's archives.
The collection as a whole, recognised by UNESCO and Arts Council England for its national and international significance, details the history of Britain's leading role in the development of telecommunications and the impact of this technology on society.
Funded by JISC the project has catalogued, digitised and developed the next generation digital surrogates of almost half a million photographs, images, documents and correspondence assembled by BT and its predecessors over 165 years, and a core part of the overall archive.
The project is hosting two FREE seminars in London and Coventry to show how we have worked together to make this happen, the challenges we faced when digitising the images and records, and the ways we used innovative gaming technology to bring the digitised archives to the public in an exciting new way.
Teachers, students, researchers and the general public in the UK and overseas will have unprecedented access to our scientific and cultural telecommunications heritage, enabling them to utilise the archive for studies and leisure from anywhere in the world.
You'll learn about the work of the academics on the project team to incorporate case studies on linguistics, problem -based learning scenarios and design to enhance the learning experience of users.
