Dear all
Many thanks to those who responded to my query by email or on twitter.
Most organisations seem to be dipping a toe in the water as a result of personal interest/initiatives on the part of individual members of staff. The results from those who responded (NB non-scientific sample!) are
Number of organisations represented: 11
Organisations where social media activity is or has been recognised as part of the remit of a particular post/team (may be a post/posts shared with other parts of the parent organisation): 7
Formally recognised (eg. in a job description or team role): 4
Organisations where social media work is undertaken "in and amongst" by a number of staff, either using their personal social media accounts or a shared organisational account: 7
Many helpful comments were made on the success (eg. take-up, whether performance indicators could/should be set) of the various platforms, social media policies, working with other parts of the organisation, regularity of posting etc.
Although I specifically didn't ask which platforms were being used, the following were mentioned by respondents: flickr, facebook, twitter, wiki, blog, pinterest, tumblr, YouTube
I am currently working on a digital engagement strategy, and these responses have been extremely helpful: many thanks again to those who responded.
Best wishes
Sarah
