Data Manager
Salary Range: £32,930 – £40,720 per annum
This is an exciting and unique opportunity, funded up by the UKCRC. The post-holder, will be part of the Department of Primary Care and Public Health and work as part of the Centre for Infection Prevention Management Work Stream 3 team, to carry out work to develop and use infection surveillance schemes across the whole healthcare economy to improve management and prevention of infection. The coming together of Imperial College London and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust into the UK’s first Academic Health Sciences Centre provides the unique environment in which to deliver this vision.
The postholder will investigate information sources available and examine how data can be best used in surveillance and will be the lynchpin that brings large and complex datasets together resulting in a number of operational tools for surveillance and management of healthcare associated infections. The appointee will explore issues around patient confidentiality, linkage, validation and use of both internal databases and national datasets such as the mandatory HCAI data reporting systems run by the Public Health England and other sources such as Hospital Episode Statistics and mortality data. They will not only be supporting researchers within the research unit, but assisting in the translation of that research into practical surveillance systems for the NHS.
To apply you will need a first degree or equivalent in a numerate discipline. An MSc or equivalent higher degree in an appropriate quantitative subject or equivalent experience is desirable. Experience of advanced use of SQL for data extraction and creation of stored procedures is necessary. Expertise in database management including proven experience of analysing large, complex data sets is essential as is experience with the use of data mining and analysis tools.
Prior data management experience in epidemiological or clinical trial research, biobanks, or electronic health records (e.g. in primary care or hospital care) and expertise in multivariate statistical analyses is desirable.
The post holder will be a member of the Department of Primary Care and Public Health (Head, Professor Azeem Majeed) in the School of Public Health (Head, Professor Elio Riboli). They will be based at the Charing Cross Hospital campus in Hammersmith and the Hammersmith Campus in White City, and will be expected to play a full and active role in the academic life of the Department.
This full-time position is for a fixed term until 31 August 2014.
