Applications are invited for two Statisticians to work on a number of statistical projects within the Centre for Cancer Prevention. The Centre is at the forefront of research internationally into the prevention and control of cancer. We have particularly active programmes of research studying breast, cervical, colorectal and prostate cancer prevention, cancer screening and statistical methods for clinical trials and epidemiology.
While the post-holders will have the opportunity to be involved with other activities of the Centre, the main duties of the posts include:
• To work on projects related to biomarkers in prostate cancer and screening tests for cervix cancer;
• Studying the predictive value of dense patterns on mammograms for breast cancer risk and the extent to which this is modifiable with preventive agents;
• To explore new methods for analysing multi-arm clinical trials
• To work closely with the Centre for Experimental Arthritis Medicine as a trial statistician and to analyse epidemiological and high-dimensional data on rheumatoid arthritis.
Applicants must have MSc or PhD in Statistics or related quantitative field and experience of working with large data sets. The candidates will need to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a working knowledge of statistical, mathematical and database packages, in particular STATA. Knowledge and experience in bioinformatics would be a particular advantage.
Posts are full-time for 2 years. Future funding of the posts are determined by a 5-yearly performance review of the entire research programme by Cancer Research UK. Starting salary will be in the range £28,457 to £43,787 per annum inclusive of London Allowance.
