Dear list,
Prior to a move to a new building later this year, the Rambert Archive has been cataloguing its VHS collection thanks to an HLF grant. The grant will also enable us to digitise some of the VHS footage. We are asking the digitisation firm to provide metadata relevant to the digitisation. The metadata may include:
File Name
Source Form
Source identifier
Digitization Date
CodingHistory
FileSize
Format
Duration
Vid Format
Vid FrameRate
Vid Width
Vid Height
Vid BitDepth
Vid BitRate
Aud Format
Aud Channels
Aud SampleRate
Aud BitRate
Aud BitDepth
Checksum value
The VHS footage clips are catalogued into Calm. We are trying to come up with a sensible and useful way to then import and link the corresponding digital object metadata information to the relevant catalogue records. Initially we had thought that we'd import the data into a field in the original object's catalogue record, but the data will be quite lengthy and some of it is really only needed for ongoing maintenance of the digital objects. We then had the idea that we could import it as a 'conservation record' and link that to the catalogue record, but the conservation database doesn't appear to work like that.
Does anyone have any ideas on a solution for our metadata at all? We would love any pointers from those who are more familiar with manipulating Calm or have done something similar to this in the past.
All the best and thanks
Arike
