With regard to skin, keep in mind that any damaged skin (even where this is
still sub-clinical) can predispose to colonisation by transient, potentially
pathogenic, micro-organisms. This can, itself, be asymptomatic. How you
monitor for skin colonisation is a different story! So keeping skin in good
condition is an important aspect of a skin management system. This is a
complex topic with many myths and misconceptions, such as that
anti-bacterial skin cleansers are beneficial, thicker emollients are better
than thinner lotions, alcohol sanitisers damage the skin, etc.
