Hi there,
I am doing the sysadmin for a group here at VUW, who are doing work on the
MWA data.
In looking to set up the various packages that they require, I have
been making a
lot of use of the environment-modules package, so as to ring-fence the
environments
that each tool seems to require, and indeed as with much of the radio
astronomy software
that I have recent;ly been exposed to, a lot of it appears to depend
on a lot of the rest of it,
and so identifying what needs what can often be of benefit.
I have recently set up Starlink Kapuahi on the system here and have found that
Starlink Kapuahi appears to trample over the basic modules environment, eg I did
the following
ssh somemachine
$ module avail
------------------------ /usr/share/Modules/modulefiles ------------------------
dot module-cvs module-info modules null use.own
------------------------------- /etc/modulefiles -------------------------------
casapy/40.0.22208 duchamp/1.2.0 miriad/2013.1.10
compat-openmpi-psm-x86_64 duchamp/1.3.0 mwa_tools/2013.1.06
compat-openmpi-x86_64 geos/3.3.5 pgplot/5.2.2
cuda/5.0.0 karma/1.7.25 wcslib/4.14.0
and then
$ export STARLINK_DIR=/path/to/star-kapuahi
$ source $STARLINK_DIR/etc/profile
but then saw
$ module avail
init.c(478):ERROR:161: Cannot initialize TCL
Deep sorrow!
So, having typed "modules" into the mailing list's search box and not
seen anything
related to environment-modules, I have two (initial) questions:
1)
I can see that Starlink Kapuahi sets around 68 environmental variables and
inroduces a swathe of shell aliases into my environment but why should
it trample
all over a TCL environment such as that used by the environment-modules package.
I think that it may be tied in to the LD_LIBRARY_PATH env var, which
is empty by
default but which Starlink Kapuahi sets globally rather than inside
each of its sperate
and disparate untilities but am not sure about that as yet.
Does anyone using Starlink Kapuahi have any experience of using it alongside the
environment-modules package?
2)
I was going to look into creating an environment module for Starlink
Kapuahi in case
doing so would avoid trashing the rest of the functionality of the system.
Does anyone using Starlink Kapuahi have such a module ?
Any info/insight around this issue would be welcome and similarly,
I'll try and feed
any info back, unless someone has the/a soultion.
