Call for abstracts
'Managing Rapid Social Change and Growing Diversity: Social Policy
Responses and Changing Governance in East Asia': The 10th EASP(East Asian
Social Policy) International Annual Conference 2013, Beijing Normal
University, Beijing, China, 11-12 July, 2013.
The 10th EASP (East Asian Social Policy Network) International Annual
Conference will be held at the Beijing Normal University, China on
'Managing Rapid Social Change and Growing Diversity: Social Policy
Responses and Changing Governance in East Asia'.
East Asian countries and communities are facing new social challenges as
result of rapid social change and growing diversity. Fast changing
economies and societies in East Asia present a rather complicated picture
and their experiences may be different from other countries in the world in
terms of their speed, cultural aspects and complexity. In managing these
challenges, governments are developing social policies and the East Asian
welfare states are going through some restructuring. Historical background
and unique features also pose new questions as to the future path and
characteristics of governance in the region. The EASP international
conference will provide a forum for lively discussion to address a range of
issues relating to these challenges, identify future research agenda and
discuss the role of social policy.
We particularly wish to invite papers that reflect this theme, however,
also invite papers on any aspects of social policy within the East Asian
region and stress that papers from outside of this theme will be
accommodated, as is the usual practice for the EASP.
In addition to single papers, we also strongly encourage proposals for
symposia, whereby three or more abstracts linked to a particular theme are
submitted for consideration. Symposia will allow participants to engage
more deeply with their special interests and create a space for focused
debate on specific themes.

with contributors' abstracts. Proposals will be reviewed by the EASP
Committee prior to acceptance. The closing date for the submission of
abstracts and proposals is Saturday 30th March 2013. Full papers must be
submitted electronically to the same address by 30 June 2013.
Postgraduates are also invited to attend the conference. Options for
