The current newsletter of the Shropshire Caving and Mining Club notes the closure of Shibden Farm No. 2 Mine, Shibden Dale near Halifax. Halifax Hard Bed Clay was mined for making refractory glass pots for glass blowers. The closure is significant as it also sees the closure of what I believe to be the last commercial plateway. Closure may have occurred last September but I hope to establish a precise date in due course.
