Dear all,
You have possibly noticed the German Screen Studies Network symposium ‘The Return of the Real’ (http://germanscreenstudies.co.uk/symposium) to be held at King’s College London from 3 to 5 July 2013. In cooperation with the Goethe-Institut, this public event will combine film screenings with introductory talks and workshops, with the aim of exploring the subject of ‘realism’ in contemporary German-language film.
A parallel workshop is being organized where postgraduates working on all areas of German language film can present their research in an informal environment. We will also use this opportunity to discuss postgraduate involvement in the German Screen Studies Network and to consider the methodological problems we encounter as research students working across disciplines. This event will also take place at King’s College London and will form the first day of the symposium, Wednesday 3rd July, 10.00–17.00.
If you would be interested in presenting a paper on any area of your research relating to German screen studies — we encourage the broadest possible range of subjects (preferably related but not limited to the symposium theme) — please send an abstract of up to 250 words to either of us by April 21st. Presentations should be limited to 20 minutes and will be organized into several panels, with a discussion following each. Following the workshop, students are invited to participate in the symposium for which there is no fee. Ten bursaries of up to £50 are available to assist with travel costs.
If you have any questions or suggestions regarding either event, please feel free to get in touch.
Regardless of whether you can attend these events, we would like to encourage postgraduates working on German screen studies to send us details of your academic background and the subject of your research (of around 200 words) so we can put the information on the website.
With best wishes,
André Hammelmann ([log in to unmask])
