Hi All,
We have a number of higher risk areas in the College where students work unsupervised. We have 'certification' schemes in place for some areas, where students have to show competence before they are allowed to work in these areas, but this doesn't really work for all areas. (This certification will include activities that can and can't be done, knowledge of emergency procedures and where to find staff in an emergency, etc)
The area I am really looking is Performing arts/dance etc. They need to access areas such as the stage, gym, dressing rooms, backstage and other rehearsal areas and often work unsupervised. As a number of groups are under one lecturer on occasions, supervision can't be continuous.
What do you do in your Colleges? Do you allow students to work on drama and dance routines, (sometimes in groups of up to 20) in potentially higher risk areas? If you do, what further control measures do you have in place?
Many thanks
Helen.
