I feel obliged to respond all, so that I can ask whether this should be a sense of plaice?
If I'm sending a pun, I might as well be useful. Is there any sort of Transition Town movement in Grimsby? A quick search finds some in Louth and Hull, but they might have members/contacts in Grimsby? If he's really keen - and by putting out feelers he'll probably find others who are willing to support him - there are aspects of neighbourhood planning that he might find useful: http://mycommunityrights.org.uk/neighborhood-planning/

Subject: Grimsby Fish Docks - how would geographers maintain its sense of place?
Dear All,
One of my interviewees for the PhD - a producer of smoked fish in Grimsby
- is very concerned that the Grimsby Fish Docks are in a state of rapid decline due to the unwillingness of the landlord - Associated British Ports
- to maintain the traditional conditions by arranging a viable plan that will ensure the Docks have a future. This lack of interest now means that local politicians and residents have started to assume that 'nothing' can regenerate the area in a way that supports its traditional ambience.
He has asked me which organisations I think might be able to help. I suggested English Heritage but his request is rather outside my remit.
He has created an informative presentation called "Grimsby's Fish Docks:
Exploring Different Options for the Future". I'm happy to forward it to anyone who is interested in this kind of topic.
I would be grateful if anyone can provide advice about potential organisations that might support his quest to maintain the upkeep of the Docks while maintaining their sense of place.
Thanks!
