I wonder what killed the pigs and then I wonder what killed the ducks.
After all the pigs were domestic farm/factory farm animals but the
article does not indicate the source of the ducks. Were they wild and
died as a result of the toxic conditions caused by decomposing pigs in
the water course or were they also domestic farm/factory farm animals
that died and were simply dumped into the river?
The last question I would like to ask is what actually killed the ducks
must have been pretty serious for them to bury the corpses 3 metres down
in plastic bags. When was the last time anyone heard of this being done
with farm or factory animals?
Dead animals in water courses is also a threat to humans who drink that
water so I wonder if the contamination of the river would potentially
lead to botulism poisoning? After all when the oxygen levels in water
are exhausted an Anaerobic environment is created and this is ideal for
this kind of bacterium to propagate. However I am no expert on this
stuff so maybe someone could clarify the potential risks of this kind of
pollution event.
