Abstract
It is increasingly possible to take part in day-to-day activities online, a trend with broad implications for how people organise their lives in time and space – and therefore how and how much people travel.
The research reported in this seminar is based on analysis of the Scottish Household Survey. The SHS collects a wide range of information about people’s lifestyles, in addition to a one-day travel diary. Due to the detailed data it collects about people’s internet usage patterns, the SHS is uniquely well-suited to assess the interactions between online and travel behaviour. This talk will summarize the research and place it in wider context. A number of intuitive and some rather surprising findings from the joint study of internet-use and personal mobility are discussed, along with further research needs.
