I hope both sides understand that while an unprovoked US invasion of
N Korea is totally improbable, the entry of a Chinese force "in
support of the North Korean people" (consider Hungary 1956,
Czechoslovakia 1968) is far from impossible. Many commentators have
called on China to step up to the plate. A mini-coup or a change in
North Korean policy may be what's intended but may not be the
result. Even a Chinese military intervention might be helpful but I
hope those who are rattling sabres have properly considered the
longer term consequences. Maybe the North Koreans have not even
considered this possibility - and they should.
Just for the record.
