Call for Papers: A CONFERENCE ON
Ireland and the Supernatural AND
SOUTHERN REGIONAL ACIS MEETING
FEBRUARY 14-15, 2014
AT THE EMBASSY SUITES, 1100 se 17TH St.
FT. LAUDERDALE, FL 33316
TOPICS MAY INCLUDE:
Celtic and Irish mythology; the fairy world; the banshee (bean sí);
fallen and other angels; Catholic teachings vs. Irish folk traditions/
beliefs; Irish fairies, elves, leprechauns, etc., in modern popular
culture (including books, television, film and the arts); W. B. Yeats
and Protestant magic; Irish Gothic literature; second sight/prophecy;
Land of the Dead/Otherworld in Irish thought; Irish ghosts and other
revenants; the vampire in Irish and world mythology/
literature/culture; martyrdom and blood sacrifice in Irish
nationalism; the ?American wake? and the concept of death in relation
to Irish emigration. Comparative studies are encouraged. Topics
other than the major conference theme will also be considered.
Proposals for papers, including 100-word abstracts, or for panels,
including speakers and topics, should be submitted by Sept. 5, 2013,
