Dear Daniel,
Thanks very much for your detailed reply. It’s helpful indeed that I can create categories, but also a bit disappointed to know there is no automatic way to color the nodes. Maybe I can try to combine the function of depthmap/Jass together. And I will wait curiously for your "new things".
I also feel the J-graph in the “node-link” form is very good to understand configuration, and particularly helpful to understand the layout concepts such as “small ring, big ring, tree and branches” in design. I think it could be useful for the designers to test their design options very quickly when they are operating complex buildings.
I tested it yesterday and it takes only a few minutes to build a graph for a 20,000 square meters gallery building. With the J-graph, I can check whether the center hall is functioned well as the gathering space (shallow from other nodes), and whether all the exhibition space is accessible from the entrance (not too many steps away). I may try this software with my designer friend later and see his opinion. It’s easier and quicker to use for test design options, just as you said, add a door or close one could make big difference. And the virtue about Jass is, compare to “axial line” and “small grid space in depthmap”, the convex breaking of space into rooms and passages is much more closer to architects’ thinking.
I wonder if there are already some studies of J-graph analysis tool aids architecture design. If anyone knows, may you provide me the references? Many Thanks!
