Hi Mike,
We did some delving into this subject when we were looking at introducing CoHort. It's possible to have an electronic one similar to the tablet signatures we give when accepting parcels and deliveries, and our legal dept checked out that this was sufficient for record keeping.
Hope this helps.
Regards
Cheryl

Dear Colleagues,
What is the legal position for signed signatures on consents?
Verbal consent is appropriate for telephone consults, but what about other consents?
When signing up for 'services' on the net, when you cross/tick a box it is deemed a legal acceptance of the 'terms and conditions' of whatever you are signing up to. Would such a consent be allowed for an AMRA consent if done online ?
Your views and knowledge in such matters would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Mike King,
Clinical Operations Director, Ascelpius OH Services.

We are looking into digital pens to link into documents we can upload into Co-hort . This means you can have any document handwritten and it will just scan into the system and you destroy the original.
We have the same aim -paper light that is.

Subject: [OCC-HEALTH] Moving to a paper light system
Hi there,
Like it or not we're stuck with OPAS and are struggling with the issue of signed consent for manaement referrals. OPAS has a system where the manager can send an electronic referral directly to the OPAS inbox for the OH departmnet to pick up. However, how do we gain a proper consent (a physical signature) without the manager having to print off the referal, getting the employee to sign it then scanning it? It seems like a pain and I'm not sure it would encourage managers with referrals.
Alternatively, does everyone always get written consent from employees, prior to appointments?
Hope that made sense...Any ideas or suggestions from people who have had similar issues?
Thanks,
Richard
