Developing and testing a culturally appropriate intervention among breast cancer survivors from diverse ethnic and social backgrounds: A pilot feasibility study

•NJC Grade G, Point 45 - £41,341 per annum inc. LW pro rata
•Fixed term contract for 18 months.

We have an opportunity for a highly experienced researcher/public health interventionist to work with us in designing and developing a culturally appropriate group based psychosocial intervention for breast cancer patients from diverse ethnic and social backgrounds, and to lead on the design and implementation of a pilot feasibility trial. The study is a collaboration between Breast Cancer Care, King’s College London and the Medical Research Council’s Social and Public Health Sciences Unit.
Ideally the successful candidate will have a strong public health or trialist background, and have extensive experience in intervention design, development and evaluation. The post holder will mainly be responsible for the development and day-to-day management of the pilot feasibility trial in our chosen sites. In conjunction with other staff members they will support the development of the intervention. They will be responsible for developing the trial protocol, gaining ethics approvals; establishing high quality research procedures; testing appropriateness of outcome measures with our study population, and oversee a strong process evaluation of the study. They will also play a key role in data analysis and dissemination of the study findings.
We are looking for a dynamic individual with a strong career in intervention research, preferably in public health. Applicants should be educated to doctoral level and have meticulous project management capabilities combined with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Previous experience of managing a randomised controlled trial or health-related intervention study will be an advantage.
Ideally the post-holder will be able to start in April 2013.
