I share Cristiano's thoughts. I think it's quite a tough one, and I'd certainly welcome any further guidance on how to deal with this when you're a commercial entity working in this space.
Personally I'd say it should entirely be about relevance - and the commercial or non-commercial side of stuff should really make absolutely no difference to whether something is ok to post or not. If you've done something which is likely to be of interest to list members (i.e. about museums and technology), then IMO it should be postable, whether commercial or not.
There's obviously a bit of subtlety and context required. If someone consistently posts in a way which is very obviously about pushing a particular company or piece of software or whatever then an off-list "please stop" warning would seem a proportionate response.
Finally - I'm not sure about the "ask the list owner" thing. This just slows everyone down and creates additional work for the MCG committee who already have loads to do. I suspect we're all adult enough to do without this? Well, I'm not, obviously, but probably most people are :-)
