Dear all,
I hope someone can help!
We've had an enquiry from a researcher who wants access to " the hour-long nightly news on Al-Jazeera Arabic, seven days a week from 19 December 2010 to 28 November 2011, i.e. approx. 45 weeks / 315 newscasts."
Have you got recordings or do you know of a source that could help? We've got Factiva and transcripted news of Al-Jazeera English, but this is not what is needed. This is what our researcher has said she would like to use the recordings for:
"Ideally, we would like to code video-taped newscasts as this allows coding images, too, e.g. how protesters are presented. Given the attitude-shaping power of images this would be extremely important for our study. "
We've looked at BUFVC but can't find suitable recordings there. We've Googled too, and are going to suggest to the researcher that she might find different results if she searches in Arabic, whilst in an Arabic speaking country although I'm not sure if that is likely to be possible. I suppose it might be worth her while contacting archives or Libraries in an Arabic speaking country too so if you have a helpful contact, that would be very welcome. In fact, I'm stumped, so all advice welcome!
Many thanks,
