We are seeking a ‘Field Data Verification Worker’ to carry out a comprehensive data capture exercise in North London for the creation of various mapping related products

Accurate and complete data is at the heart of our Mapping Products. You will be undertaking quality controlled data capture of map based and associated attribute data. Data that will be used for publication and to facilitate geographic based decision-making.

You should have: A full clean driving license and be over 25 years of age (for insurance on company vehicle), A reasonable level of fitness, as you will be required to walk around outside in the urban environment collecting data; 5 GCSE's at Grade C or above including Maths and English or equivalent relevant work experience; Basic IT Skills or relevant experience; experience in carrying out routine data capture work using computers to input and access data; experience with interpreting maps and plans. (Although training will be given.)

Position Title: Field Data Verification Worker.

Job Purpose: To carry out comprehensive data capture for our mapping products, which will entail walking along the streets of London and collecting address , Land use data, asset and other information as requested. You will also update paper maps with basic line work and annotation to show changes in buildings and boundaries.

Position in Organisation: You will have no supervisory responsibility. You will report to the Fieldwork Supervisor – Tony Beasley

Main Duties (briefly summarised): 
•	To undertake data capture for mapping products.
•	To collect various types of information that relate to properties such as its main use, commercial or retail types and addresses. By visiting the property and recording publicly available accessible/visible data.
•	To liase with the GIS Data Management Officer to ensure data collected is accurate and complete.
•	To ensure all data captured is done so in accordance with The GeoInformation Group’s data capture policy. (Training given.)
•	Undertake all amendments needed following a quality control check after the data capture process.
•	To ensure that reasonable care is taken at all times with respect to health and safety and welfare of yourself and other persons and comply with policies and procedures relating to health and safety within The GeoInformation group.

Desirable Skills, Knowledge & Experience: 
•	5 GCSE's at Grade C or above including Maths and English or equivalent relevant work experience.
•	Basic IT Skills – using databases from an end-user perspective, carrying out routine data capture work.
•	Any knowledge or experience of using and interpreting plans and mapping products.
•	Ability to clearly follow instructions.
•	Ability to work as part of a team and also on your own.
•	Good people skills such as co-operative working, positive attitude, ability to listen and feedback.
•	You need to be keen and self-motivated.
•	Methodical, neat, fast and accurate worker.

Problem Solving, complexity and use of initiative:
•	Carries out digital data capture into handheld electronic device or onto paper and also updates paper based mapping.
•	Ensures the highest level of quality of the resulting data and highlights issues and discrepancies to GIS Data Management Officer.
Decisions, Level of Advice and Impact:
•	Makes judgements on the need to consult data owners when the need arises.
•	Need to work unsupervised for long periods of time.
•	The need to organise own work programme to achieve project deadlines and operational targets.

Operational Responsibility: Team Member.

Working Conditions: The post-holder will work in an outdoor environment with the majority of time being spent entering data on to paper map records. This will necessitate a keen eye for detail and the highest level of accuracy and consistency.

Communication: You will maintain frequent contact with data owners and liase mainly with the GIS Data Management Officer.

Salary: £8.50 per hour
