2 posts available, fixed term for 2 years. A further post is available fixed term for 1 year. These posts have come about due to German's recent success in the AHRC fellowship scheme.
Applications are invited for three posts as Lecturer in German in the School of Modern Languages and Cultures. The posts are available from August 2013. With a completed or near-completed PhD in the broad area of German Studies, you will be able to demonstrate a capacity for original research that complements our existing research specialisms. You will be developing a high-quality publication profile in any area of German Studies, and will be able to contribute to the research culture of the subject area, School and Faculty. These posts are to cover for colleagues who have recently been awarded AHRC fellowships, and are not tenure track positions.
With a native or near-native (or equivalent) command of both German and English, you will also be expected to teach modules relating to your specialist area in addition to contributing to team-taught studies modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. You will be able to demonstrate effective teaching skills and a range of delivery techniques and assessment methods in both language and non-language classes. In addition, you will be expected to take responsibility for an administrative area within German and to undertake the necessary training to support all aspects of the role. You should evidence ability to engage with and work in partnership with students to provide an exceptional student experience.
Your recent and immediately forthcoming publications should qualify you for inclusion in the upcoming REF, and indicate an ability to make a distinctive contribution to research activity in this subject area. You will be given every encouragement to develop your subject within the research and teaching environment of the School subject to the requirements of the post.
