CfP: Doctoral Consortium in healthcare/safety-critical systems, 13 June, London
Apply by 11 March
PhD students working in the areas of healthcare (with relevance to patient safety) and safety-critical systems (with relevance to healthcare) are invited to apply (by 11th March) to participate in a one-day Doctoral Consortium (DC), sponsored by the CHI+MED project (www.chi-med.ac.uk).
The DC will be held in London on Friday 14 June, in conjunction with the IEHF (Institute of Ergonomics & Human Factors) Early Career Research Symposium, which is the day before, i.e. Thursday 13 June. PhD students attending either the Thursday or the Friday event are also invited to a CHI+MED dinner on the Thursday evening. Please note that numbers at the DC are limited, and there is an application process: not all applicants can necessarily be accepted.
For further details of the event, and to apply, please visit the website at http://www.ergonomics.org.uk/event/early-career-research-symposium/ .
For those not familiar with the idea of a DC: A Doctoral Consortium is a closed event (no spectators) consisting of a number of PhD students and a few tutors. Students take turns to present an aspect of their PhD research. They receive comments from the other participants and specific feedback from one or more of the tutors. Students who attend a DC usually find it a highly positive and useful experience. In addition, the event has a strong social/networking side. It can be a very helpful and supportive process for students in the middle of their PhD to meet and discuss common concerns with others in the same position on a related topic.
