Lancaster University's School of Computing and Communications has six
Doctoral Scholarships available for exceptional UK, EU, and overseas
graduates. We are keen to attract candidates to join our exciting team
of Human-Computer Interaction researchers.
Awards will be made on the basis of academic excellence and potential
for future achievement as demonstrated by your application and
supporting references. The Scholarships provide support for PhD studies
for a duration of 3 to 3.5 years and include a waiver of tuition fees
(partial fee waiver for overseas students), a student maintenance grant
and a training bursary.
Candidates are strongly encouraged to contact relevant academics before
applying to discuss interests and potential topics. The following staff
are actively seeking students in HCI:
Dr. Jason Alexander ([log in to unmask]): deformable and
actuated displays, novel input and output techniques, mobile HCI,
understanding real-world interactions.
Prof. Hans Gellersen ([log in to unmask]): spontaneous
interaction with pervasive devices, eye tracking and eye-computer
interfaces, sensors and devices for ubiquitous computing.
Dr. Mike Hazas ([log in to unmask]): energy and technology at home;
practice-oriented understandings of everyday life and sustainability.
Dr. Matthew Rowe ([log in to unmask]): social network evolution,
recommender systems, digital identity, attention economics.
Prof. Jon Whittle ([log in to unmask]): social computing,
understanding behaviour in online social networks, community-university
co-design of digital technology, human aspects of software engineering.
